Boys Basketball Varsity team after their win in Korea Classic

The Chadwick Boys Basketball team will be competing in the KAIAC championship this Friday and Saturday (Feb 10-11) at SFS. As the date for the KAIAC basketball tournament draws near, the question of their chance of winning arises. Chadwick Boys Basketball currently have a 6-4 run in the KAIAC league, placing them third overall. SFS is in first place with a 9-0 record. Trailing a little behind in second place comes SIS with a 6-3 record followed by HHS with a 6-4 record.

We asked some of the varsity players about our chances this weekend.

What are the chances for our team to win? Who do you think will be the greatest threat to our team?

Ian Park, class of 2024, responded: “We can certainly win. It may be challenging, but it certainly isn’t impossible. Our most significant threats are SFS and SIS. Besides them, I think we are confident enough. We will practice hard and will be ready to fight this week. Also, I know SFS has had a perfect run this season but don’t forget that we won first place in the ‘Korea Classic’ this season where we beat SFS. We also beat SIS just a week ago, too, so yeah, we got this!”

Thank you, Ian. I know that you missed out on many of the games due to your injury as a starting player for the team, but I heard that you would be coming back to play this weekend at KAIAC. Do you think you can bring value to the team this weekend? Do you have any goals?

“Of course! My goal is to fulfill my job. I am aiming to score at least 10 points per game and have a minimum of 5 steals per game. I feel like I have been a burden to the team throughout this season, so I will try my hardest to prove myself.”

We also asked Chris Kang, class of 2024, who is the key player on the team.

Hi, Chris! I know that you are scoring 39 points per game average this season and even had 41 points last game against SIS. What are the chances of the team winning KAIAC this weekend?

“I believe we have a high chance of winning. I will carry the team as usual, but for me to be able to do so, it will highly depend on my teammates. MJ would need to get more physical and create attacking chances through rebounds and defense. Doug’s shooting percentage should also increase, and RK should limit his number of turnovers down to 2. If everyone does what they are supposed to do, I am sure that we can win.”

Although it won’t be easy, the Chadwick boys basketball squad will fight with passion this weekend to compete against other teams this weekend at KAIAC. Go Wick!
