Service Councils are emerging as an influential and empowering platform for students to positively impact local volunteering and service-related activities. The Service Council at Chadwick International specifically thrives on fostering a sense of responsibility, opportunity, student voice, and volunteerism. This article provides an overview of the role and significance The Service Council holds at Chadwick International.
About the April 28th Service Assembly
On April 28th, grades 6-10 students were invited to the final assembly hosted by The Service Council. The main hosts of the assembly were Martin Lim (G9), Wendy An (G9), Sue Park (G8), and Siwoo (G7). The assembly discussed the central theme of reflection. Reflection referred to an overview of past service council projects, service club highlights, and goals for the upcoming school year. Regarding the theme, the assembly also focused on two essential ATL skills: reflection and communication.
Highlights: Achievements
Recently, The Service Council launched an Instagram account. The broadening of social media platforms was intended for greater communication with students and raising awareness of issues. The Service Council Instagram account introduces UNSDG goals toward students clearly and clearly. The account also presents an introduction to service-related clubs.
During the 22-23 school year, service clubs have significantly impacted our school community and international students.
First, the Kenya Service Club, led by student leaders Jason Choi (G11) and Dana Shim (G9) and supervisors Ms.Buchnanan, Mr.Bukachi, and Ms.Macharia, recently visited a rural area in Kenya to support fellow students. The KSC club aims to develop sustainable projects and various entertainment activities for students/ schools in rural Kenya to enjoy a better learning environment.
Another club, PSL, underwent a global service trip to the Philippines from April 30th to May 6th, 2023. PSL follows with its mission statement: “Empowering the marginalized through nutrition, education, and partnership” to execute service trips and collaborations. Participants of the recent PSL trip were Mao Sim (G11), Liz Kang (G11), Kayla Shin (G10), Jacqueline Park (G10), Alyssa Han (G9), Sihyun Baek (G9), Hwi-Jong Ryu (G8), Edward Kim (G7), Mari Bilkberg (G7), Maggie Brough (G6), and Jasmine Ricohermoso (G6).
Along with KSC and PSL, various middle and high school clubs contributed to volunteerism at Chadwick International.
The Service Council hosted a Service Bazaar. The Service Bazaar was held last Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023. Clubs that participated in The Service Bazaar included Kaleidoscope, MS PSL, US PSL, MS Pushcart, Girl Up CI, Voiceless, and more. Major service-related clubs set up booths in the atrium to sell goods and offer to raise money for reliable organizations working to provide immediate relief– water, food, and medical supplies– to victims in both Turkey and Syria. Through the Service Bazaar, Chadwick Internation students demonstrated core values of compassion and responsibility.
