As an International school, Chadwick International’s basketball varsity teams will be engaged in the KAIAC tournament this coming Friday and Saturday. The Chadwick Girls varsity team will host the tournament in Chadwick’s main gym.

In the 22-23 Winter Season, the Girls Varsity team has been unlucky, with a current record of 0 wins and 10 losses. However, they are still fighting to make the most of their season and are determined to perform well in the tournament.

We asked one of the girls Varsity team’s starting players, Sunny Seong, about her goals at the end of the season and how they are feeling before the tournament.

What do you want to make out of this season?

“As our coach said, our team is very new. We want to try our best to win every game that we play, but our main goal of this season is to grow and develop as better basketball players and as a team, so that we can be better next year.”

What is your goal in the KAIAC tournament?

“Our primary goal for this KAIAC tournament is to win our first game and to continue to reach first place. But even if we lose, we hope that everyone can enjoy their last games of the season.”

Even though your team is currently struggling, how do you plan to improve, and how is your team’s current atmosphere?

“We have faced difficult challenges throughout the season, but I think we have overcome these challenges through teamwork. However, we definitely have lots of things to improve, such as individual skills and confidence. I believe that with stronger individual player skills and teamwork on top of it our team will be indestructible! For the past three months, we were able to grow more as a team by cheering and supporting each other. Our practices are always loud and lively and fun. I love that everyone is so supportive and hopes for the best of the team, not only for themselves.”

We also asked others on the campus about our Girls Varsity team’s chances in winning the KAIAC championship.

Ian Park, another basketball player in the Boys Varsity team, answered  “Anything is possible”.

So what are their chances at KAIAC? In the sports Industry, team records most of the time accurately represent how a team is currently performing. However, upsets by underdogs can happen anytime, even in the best, prominent leagues such as the NBA.

The determined girls Varsity Team will be facing off against 5 other contenders on Friday and Saturday. Will the Dolphins squad, on their homecourt, be able to upset other teams to reach the championship? Come to the games and find out!
