Chadwick Soccer Teams Storm Through the Korea Classic

THOMAS KONG / VARSITY BOYS SOCCER

On February 24th and 25th, Chadwick hosted Korea Classic, a four-team friendly soccer tournament. Looking to start the season strong, Chadwick entered the tournament hungrier than ever. Chadwick competed against the likes of Humphreys High School and Osan Middle High School, whom the Dolphins will face later on in the season in the blue division, and Cheongna Dalton School, who were runners-up in the red division last year.

Dolphins Dignity

Chadwick marked the start of the tournament by playing Osan Middle High School in the first fixture. The Dolphins had a phenomenal start to the game, as junior forward Thomas Kong won a penalty after being tackled in the opposition penalty area. The penalty was converted by Nate Kim, who will wear the captain’s armband alongside senior Minsoo Kim this season. Chadwick then went on to score a wave of goals, as freshman Elijah Kim netted four goals, getting a hattrick together with Thomas Kong and Nate Kim who each got three.

New Faces

Jinwoo Choi and Joshua Byun also got on the scoresheet as new additions to the team, scoring their first goals for Chadwick as freshmen. In addition, senior midfielder Sultan Mohsen put one past the keeper, also netting his first goal for the Dolphins. Overall, the Dolphins ended the match with a 14-0 win, putting on a goalfest against the visitors.

Coming Together

Chadwick had a slow start to their next game against Humphreys High School, in which the Dolphins failed to score against the Blackhawks in the first half. Chadwick eventually took the game home with a goal by Thomas Kong off the opposition goalkeeper’s mistake and two additional goals by Sultan Mohsen and Nate Kim. However, the Dolphins showed a disappointing performance, falling behind the expectations of coaches and fans.

The Dolphins then demonstrated team spirit, gathering after the game for a team talk and evaluating their game for better performance in their final match.

Unstoppable Dolphins

Chadwick showed drastic improvement in their final game against Cheongna Dalton School, in which senior Alex Lee came on for his first game of the season. Senior Michael Jung kept a stable defensive line, as captain Minsoo Kim created dangerous chances in the front line. Freshman striker Elijah Lee opened up the scoring as he finished off a beautiful passing sequence with a powerful volley past the opposition goalkeeper. Junior Thomas Kong scored the second goal after finishing a beautiful pass from team captain Nate Kim.

Chadwick ended the tournament overall with three wins, 19 goals scored, and 0 goals conceded, cruising past KAIAC teams to mark an excellent start to the season. The fans are especially excited by such an outstanding performance by the team, who look forward to starting the Blue Division Conference with a win against YISS next week.
